Catherine Planche Friedrichs' Obituary
Catherine “Katie” Planche Friedrichs, 80, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2009.
Beloved mother of Drew Friedrichs, M. Pierre Friedrichs, Marie Friedrichs Rodehorst and Kit Friedrichs-Baumann; grandmother to Caroline, Andrew, Leah, Elizabeth, Anastasia, Harris and Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew V. Friedrichs, Jr.; her mother, Catherine Slattery Planche; her father, Maurice P. Planche, Sr.; a sister, Marie Planche; and two brothers, Ricky and Edgar Planche.
She was a native and lifetime resident of Ramsay, LA. A community activist and Professor Emeritus at Southeastern Louisiana University, she was a graduate of Saint Scholastica Academy and Louisiana State University with a Masters degree in Physical Education and Dance and later studied at Columbia University in New York. As a young girl, she was the first female to show cattle with 4-H in Louisiana and was a featured actor in the film “Kingfish”. She was also a founding member of Playmaker Theater.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to Celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457 on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM.
Visitation AT THE CHURCH will begin on Wednesday at 12:30 PM.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery.
Katie’s request was for donations to Saint Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457; or the charity of one’s choice in her memory.
