Carmel Irmina Brown's Obituary
Carmel Irmina Lukinovich Brown passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Hammond, LA. She was born on December 24, 1926 in New Orleans, LA to the late Andrew Lukinovich and Amelia Priez Lukinovich.
Carmel was married to her beloved husband, the late William J. Brown, Sr., for almost 50 years. She was the loving mother of Mary B. Mann, Bonnie B. Hardey (Dr. Kim Hardey), W. John Brown, Jr. (Natalie), Coralie Brown (Chris L’Hoste), Carmel B. Ensminger (Paul), Angela B. LeBlanc (Troy), Pamela B. Adams (Louis), and the late Gerry R. Brown. She was a wonderful grandmother to 27 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way. Carmel was a beloved sister of Teresa Kernion, Andrew Lukinovich, the late Amelita Cambre, the late Mary Louise (Lulu), and the late Leoda Lapre'.
Upon her graduation from Sacred Heart High School, she joined the religious order the School Sisters of Notre Dame to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. She taught at Redemptorist St. Gerard in Baton Rouge then at Sacred Heart in New Orleans before meeting the love of her life, Bill. They were married at Sacred Heart Church in New Orleans in 1952. As a military family they lived in several states before settling in Covington, LA in 1969. Carmel had a deep faith in the Lord and a love for the Catholic Church. Her passion was serving others which included being a Eucharistic minister, church lecturer, Catechist teacher, and chaplain for the American Legion Auxiliary.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:00 Noon until Mass time.
