Carlos Aceves-Fernandez's Obituary
Carlos Manuel Aceves-Fernandez passed away on September 27, 2009. A resident of Covington since 1937, he was born December 9, 1927 in Guadalajara, Mexico to the late Carlos Aceves and Aurelia Fernandez.
The beloved husband of Elaine Therese de la Houssaye Aceves-Fernandez for 59 years, he is survived by seven children, Rosanne A. Williams (David), Charles St. Martin, Jeanne A. Smith (Ronald), Mary Anne A. Lapeyre (Francis), David A. Aceves, M. Celeste Becker (Michael) and Elizabeth A. Tomlinson (John); seven grandchildren: Carlos N. Williams (Cheryl), Michael D. Williams (Julia), Nathaniel B. Smith, K. Adam Smith, Andrew D. Aceves, Anna E. and Alex J. Becker; two great grandchildren, Haley and Hanah Williams. He is also survived by five brothers: Alberto, Juan, Alfredo, Daniel, Enrique and five sisters: Carmen, Maria Elena, Maria Luisa, Esperanza and Maria de los Angeles. He was preceded in death by three siblings.
He was a class of 1945 graduate of Lyon High School in Covington, received a Bachelor’s Degree from LSU, served his country from 1951-55 in Air Force intelligence and received his Master’s Degree from LSU in 1963. He served on the parish council at St. Peter Catholic Church, was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister and the recipient of the St. Louis Medal. He was a school board representative for St. Paul’s, St. Scholastica and St. Peter’s School and was a founding member of the Covington High School PTA. He was an active member of the City of Covington Planning and Zoning Board and was a founding member of the St. Tammany Art Association and Playmakers.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Rd., St. Benedict, LA 70457.
Visiting hours will begin at 1:00 PM.
Interment at the abbey cemetery will immediately follow mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Abbey Pennies for Bread at the above address.
