Carlo N. Hernandez's Obituary
Carlo N. Hernandez passed away in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, on April 8, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in El Progreso, Honduras, in 1946, Carlo later made his home in Louisiana.
Carlo worked in urban planning and public administration, including service with the New Orleans Planning Commission, the Louisiana Division of Public Works, and regional planning organizations. He was also known in St. Tammany Parish for his involvement in local government and civic affairs, closely following parish planning, zoning, and public policy matters. Often referred to as a “St. Tammany watchdog,” Carlo was recognized for carefully reviewing parish budgets each year and regularly attending public budget meetings, sometimes as the only citizen in attendance.
Carlo was preceded in death by his wife, Denise Metiva Hernandez, who passed away in 2023. He is survived by his children, Miranda M. Hernandez, Theresa L. Hernandez, Darrin P. Hernandez, Erica N. Hernandez, and Jason M. Hernandez, stepson Jacob K. Manning, and grandchildren Lorelei Bertke, Carolyn Olsen and William Olsen.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
