Brother Cassian Lange, FSC's Obituary
Brother Cassian Lange, FSC (Theodore William Lange) a resident of Saint Paul’s School in Covington, LA, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007.
Born February 10, 1917, Brother recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He was the son of Theodore William Lange and the former Mary L. Richidella, both deceased.
Brother was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools New Orleans – Santa Fe Province. He took the habit of the Brothers August 14, 1933 in Lafayette, LA, and pronounced his perpetual vows August 15, 1942. He served as teacher, administrator and Vocation Director in many of the schools of the Brothers.
Many of his years were spent at Saint Paul’s School in Covington where he was responsible for several buildings constructed during his administration. He was principal at Saint Paul’s School 1948 – 1951 and again 1955 – 1961. He was principal of De La Salle High School in New Orleans 1961 – 1964 and principal at St. Peter’s School in New Iberia 1952 – 1955. Since 1994 he has been a member of the retirement community at Saint Paul’s School.
He is survived by his sister, Anna Inch and his brother, Joseph L. Lange, Sr. and 11 nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Fassbender, Ronald Fassbender, Kathleen Glorioso, Angela Manix, Theodore Lange, Cynthia Wheeler, Darleen Duda, Patricia Liuzza, Dianna Webb, Joseph Lange, Jr. and Marie Lange. He has many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Brother was noted as a competent teacher and capable administrator. His vocation to the Brotherhood was something that he treasured greatly. His years of retirement were an inspiration.
There will be viewing and a rosary at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Saint Paul’s School, Covington, LA, on Wednesday June 6, 2007, from 6 – 8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday June 7, 2007, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Saint Paul’s School, by Rev. Peter Blanchard, S.M. and the eulogy will be given by Brother John Fairfax, FSC.
Interment will follow Mass at De La Salle Cemetery, 1522 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA.
In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations to the Brother Cassian Lange Memorial Scholarship at Saint Paul’s School are preferred.
