I remember when Katrina hit me and my sister Bonnie was living on Lake Ave in a two story townhouse. My sister was always prepared for any emergency, like batteries , radio, things like that. We were so used to staying when a Hurricane hit because we never left anyplace that we lived because my father refused to leave so with every Hurricane that came I slept through it. But this one time we only had a few candles. Katrina was different. We hadn't watched the news so we realize how bad it was. I think it hit at night but by 2am in the morning we had lost electricity. It was slow moving and lasted all day. The next day I would go sit out in my car and listen to the radio. The second day when I went to my car and heard the news of the disaster and how bad it was I went back inside and told Bonnie I think we need to see If mom and dad are ok. We packed up peanut and ebony our dogs and headed out. Our only problem was that we had to go around to get to Abita Springs where our parents lived. Instead of a 45 mile drive we ended up doing over 200 miles. It was quite an adventure. I wouldn't have had it any other way. I will always love and miss my sister but I will keep my memories of her as long as I live. Love you very much Bonnie, rest in peace. You touched a lot of people's lives. Your loving sister Cheryl.
