Billie Gayle Sanders Tuohy's Obituary
Billie Gayle Sanders Tuohy passed away on August 24, 2023 at the age of 94. She was born on September 7, 1928 in Provencal, Louisiana to the late Ina Noble and Frank Sanders.
Billie was the beloved wife of the late Walter Joseph Tuohy. She was the loving mother of Kenny (Shelley) Tuohy, of Mandeville and Vickie (John) King of Baton Rouge. Billie is forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren Aaron (Ashley) Tuohy, Jennifer (Jared) Caruso, Jessica (Connor) Hitt, Sean King, and Connor (Kristie) King; great-grandmother of Aaraley, Asher, and Aacelyn Tuohy, and Bennett Caruso. She was the sister of C.C. (Noreen) Sanders, and the late Rudolph Sanders, and Annie Sanders.
Billie was born and raised in Provencal, Louisiana. She entered nursing school at the end of World War II, with the intention of helping children injured by the atomic bomb through the J3 Organization. However, after graduating from Charity Nursing School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1949 she chose an alternate career path. She cared for numerous types of patients including veterans at the VA hospital, children in the Head Start Program, and elderly in home health care. She retired after a 66-year nursing career.
Billie will be missed by her family and friends but will be celebrated whenever they make one of her recipes, plant a garden, dance, go to brunch, or enjoy Mardi Gras.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Graveside Service at Provencal Cemetery, Parish Rd., Provencal LA 71469 on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
