Billie Willis Ledet's Obituary
Billie Willis Ledet passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the age of 94. She was born in Berwick, Louisiana and resided in Mandeville, Louisiana.
Beloved wife of almost 70 years to the late Roland Joseph Ledet. Loving mother of Linda M. Ledet, Ann C. Ledet, and the late Susan E. Ledet. Billie is also survived by her grandchildren: Nicole Lambert Lapeyrolerie ( Kenny), James J. Lambert, and Matthew L. Hirschler; great-grandchildren: Jenay, Miah and Aiyana Lapeyrolerie; and her siblings: Alvin Willis (Paula), Truman Willis (Francina) & Michael Willis (Cindy).
Daughter of the late William A. Willis & Gladys Fromenthal Willis, and sister of the late Peggy Willis Galloway.
Billie’s life was full of love, laughter and adventure. She was the definition of glamour. She & her husband once lived in Munich and Tokyo and traveled the world. She loved cooking for her family and friends, and published a cookbook, “The Cajun Touch”. Billie enjoyed singing, writing, gardening, needlework, reading mysteries and solving puzzles. She sang in the Bayou Belles Chorus of Slidell and belonged to the Bayou Lasseigne Garden Club also of Slidell. She was a Girl Scout as a young girl and later an Outdoor mother for her daughters’ troops. She also sang in her hometown Methodist Church Choir.
When her girls were in elementary school Billie served as a “room-mother”, did volunteer teaching with students who needed extra coaching, and later volunteered at the Northshore Hospital in Slidell. She belonged to the Newcomers Club, St. Tammany Library & St. Tammany Council of Aging.
Billie was smart as a whip with a great dry wit. She was kind, giving, and fair. A wonderful wife, mother, and friend.
If one was to sum up Billie Ledet, it would be with the words under her high school picture - “Happy-carefree, mischievous-a jolly companion”. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Special thanks to Dr. Delcham and the impeccable hospice team at St. Tammany Hospital.
