Betty Guth Petre's Obituary
Betty Guth Petre died on Monday, November 26, 2007.
She was born January 2, 1931 in New Orleans, LA to the late Concetta Michel and Ernest E. Guth. Betty moved to Covington in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, former New Orleans City Councilman John J. Petre and her loving daughter Geraldine Fricke Singer. Two brothers, Ernest, Jr. and Frank Guth, precede in her in death.
An accomplished painter and sculptor, Betty had a particular gift for portraiture. She worked in many mediums, but her major works were cast in bronze. One of her finest, a bronze bust of the late Rabbi Leo Bergman, is on display at Touro Synagogue. Her last major work was bronze figures of the Olympia Brass Band.
Private services were held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA. A public memorial is planned for a later date.
Betty was a 12 year survivor of lung cancer and the family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory. P.O. Box 2484 Covington, LA 70434.
