Bernyce Nelson Wilson's Obituary
Bernyce “Bee” Nelson Wilson entered into eternal glory on Saturday, May 9, 2009 after an extended illness.
“Bee”, as she was known to her family and friends, was a remarkable, self-sacrificing, spiritually motivated woman who met life’s challenges knowing that ultimately she would be welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Monticello, Mississippi on March 4, 1924, the daughter of Alma and W. Herman Nelson, she has been a resident of Covington, Louisiana for the past 47 years.
She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 60 years, Joseph Vandorn “Van” Wilson, Jr. She was the loving mother of Joseph (Joey) Vandorn Wilson, III (wife Susan) of Covington, LA, Stephen Andrew Wilson (wife Claire) of Baton Rouge, LA. Grandchildren: Rachel Wilson Dube (husband Dennis) of Brentwood, CA, Andrew Wilson (wife Brooke) of Nashville, TN, the late Ensign Van Wilson, USN of Baton Rouge, LA, Abigail Wilson (fiance’ Justin Newton) of Costa Mesa, CA, Blake Wilson of Kerrville, TX, Grace Wilson of Tahoe City, CA. Great-grandchildren, Emma and Henry Dube and Caleb Wilson. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Langston (husband James) of Winder, GA. Her brother, W.C. Nelson of Monticello, MS preceded her in death.
“Bee” enjoyed sewing, needlework, cooking, gardening, restoring and refinishing furniture. She was a member of the St. Tammany Hospital Guild and led its Candy Striper Program. “Bee” was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, youth leader and actively served in various ministries of Covington Presbyterian Church. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. The family joins in thanks and offers blessings to Catherine McCoy for her years of faithful, Godly service and friendship. The family also expresses gratitude to the staff of Heritage Manor of Mandeville and Terri Brown for the care they have rendered to “Miss Bee”.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Chapel, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Wednesday beginning at 9:00 AM until service time.
Interment will follow in Theodore Dendinger Cemetery.
