Barbara Ruth Seale's Obituary
Barbara Ruth Seale, named after her mother’s penchant for Baby Ruth candy bars, was a true redhead until the day she died of natural causes on December 1, 2022. She was 83.
Born in Savannah and raised in New Orleans, Barbara was the only daughter of Marie and William Seale, owners of Seale Pest Control. Barbara attended John McDonogh High School and discovered early in her life that she loved to draw and paint. She enthusiastically received her undergraduate and master’s degrees in fine arts from the University of Alabama, where she also was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was proud to be a Tide fan when Namath and the Bear roamed campus.
Barbara was an art teacher for many years at both the elementary and collegiate levels, encouraging students of all ages to pursue their passions. A connoisseur of all art genres, she especially enjoyed the theater where she sang and acted in multiple local stage performances, State Fair being her favorite. Financially strapped, but creatively flush, Barbara’s art work hangs on walls across the United States and abroad.
Barbara was married to Hugh Golden, of the late great Hugh’s Wine Cellar for twenty years. While married to Hugh, she enjoyed playing bridge and drinking Opus One while cooking dinner.
After a long and valiant bout with Parkinsons, Barbara passed away in her bed surrounded by friends, family and her art. She is survived by two daughters, Kristen Golden Strickland and Cathy Moses Phillips, both happily married to their supportive husbands, Abel and Nathan. “Grannie B” also leaves a legacy of six grandchildren, Macy, Nicholas, Lauren, Jonathan, Chris and Garrett. As well as three great grandchildren: LillieAnn, Layla and Caroline.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington on Monday, December 19. A brief reception will take place in the Parish Hall from10 to10:30 a.m., followed by a long Episcopal service in the chapel at 10:30 a.m. Hat wearing is encouraged, and in lieu of flowers, please just be kind to your neighbor and get busy being creative. Like Barbara would say, “Might as well, can’t dance.”
E.J. Fielding Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. Please sign the guestbook at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
