Barbara Ann Barton Krieger's Obituary
Barbara Ann Barton Krieger, 78, beloved mother, grandmother and retired research grant manager, died August 31, 2022.
A native of Monroe, she lived in the New Orleans area for more than 40 years and had lived in Covington since 1983. She was a graduate of St. Matthews High School and Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, where she received a degree in Social Work. Barbara was happiest as wife to husband, Ralph, until his death in 1987; and in her role as mother, grandmother, aunt and great-aunt.
She spent 22 years as administrative assistant and research grant manager for the Tulane University National Primate Research Center. During that time, she was part of the team that made key discoveries in the fight against AIDS. In her early career, she served as a social worker for the Louisiana Department of Public Welfare in New Orleans, worked as a substitute teacher in Metairie, as a representative for American Greeting Cards and an outpatient rehabilitation tech for Brain Injury Clinic of East Jefferson Hospital. She was a parishioner at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs.
A gifted seamstress, Barbara sewed her own clothes as a teenager and even hand-sewed part of her own wedding dress. She loved sharing her gift with others and often made dresses, window treatments, dolls, pillows and more for grandchildren, family and friends. She was also an avid gardener and her yard was known for having lush garden beds and flowering plants including azaleas, palms, hydrangeas and caladiums.
She loved making holiday crafts, watching Westerns and EWTN, reading and sharing cups of coffee with friends. She was a devoted “Gan Gan” to her four grandchildren.
Survivors include son, Scott of Mandeville (Kadee) and grandchildren, Georgia, Anna Kate, Shelby and
Jay Krieger; brother, Steve Barton (Sherri) of Covington; sisters in law, Helen Sabo (Frank) of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and Karen Terral (Nelson) of Belle Chasse; nieces, Cynthia Barton Robinson (John) of Covington and Britton Turner (Scott) of Panama City, Fla.; nephews, Chris Barton (Kristy) of West Monroe, Todd Terral (Ran) of Fairview Heights, Ill and Cory Gibson (Sabrina) of Atlanta, Ga; and many great nieces and nephews.
