Barbara Hatfield Geoghegan's Obituary
Barbara Hatfield Geoghegan passed away on Wednesday August 4, 2021 at the age of 73. She was born April 12, 1948 in Springhill, LA to the late George Andrew Hatfield and Nettie Bernice Maxey Hatfield.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Roy P. Geoghegan for 35 years. She was the loving mother of Kimberly G. Knecht; loving sister of Betty H. Benandi and Roy D. Hatfield (Sue). She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kenneth Dubois; sister-in-law, Paula Hatfield; nieces and nephews, Andrew Dubois (Nancy), Renee Dempsey (Larry) Amanda Stone (Kavin), Dwayne Dubois (Susanne), Chris and Randy Hatfield and multiple other nieces and nephews. Barbara also leaves behind close friends and family, Kirk C. Knecht, Eva Mays and the Geoghegan clan.
Barbara is predeceased by her siblings, Sissie Dubois, Odell Hatfield, Robert Hatfield, Louise Hatfield, Audrey Hatfield, Raymond Hatfield and Ruth Hatfield.
Barbara worked for the St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court and Assessor’s office for over 20 years. She loved life! Before her declining health, she enjoyed traveling, skiing, dancing, spending time with friends and family, and working in her yard. She’d jump on the riding lawnmower and mow their nine acres without flinching. She was an avid cook. She made the best homemade biscuits that no one could ever duplicate.
My dad said the reason he married her was because she could put on hunting fatigues and go for a morning hunt, then put on a cocktail dress that evening and rub elbows with fancy people. She never met a stranger. She was soft, and caring, or tough as nails if need be. She had an amazing sense of humor, and quick and humorous wit, and loved making people laugh.
She left this world as she lived her life, with strength, courage and grace. She loved Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, and we know she’ll have a front row seat in the pews of Heaven for eternity.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged and masks are required to attend services.
