Barbara Cox Galloway's Obituary
Barbara Cox Galloway entered eternal rest peacefully on the morning of Monday, February 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 12, 1940, to Ernest Vincent Cox and Pearl Jones Cox.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Galloway Barfield (Ronnie), Kimberly Galloway Murdoch (Gary), and Melinda Galloway Hulsey (Duke); seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren with two additions expected in early spring. She is also survived by her sister, Ernestine Jenkins; her brother-in-law, Wayne Galloway; five sisters-in-law, Virginia Rogers, Bonnie Pratt, Claudine Cassano, Frankie Bryant, and Gwen Plauche; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Ronald Galloway; her parents; her brother, Herchiel Cox; and her sister, Betty Jenkins.
Mrs. Barbara was an avid cook. She always loved cooking for her family and hosting family holidays. She spent many years in the hospitality industry, working many years as a waitress at Seafood World and retiring from the retreat house at St. Joseph’s Abbey. She loved reading, fishing with her loving husband, Ronald, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for her church family at New Zion Baptist Church, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The Galloway family thanks Mrs. Barbara’s kind and loving neighbors as well as Michelle and the rest of the hospice team for their supportive care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Galloway may be made to the New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Church Road, Covington, Louisiana, 70435 or Hospice of St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Church Road, Covington LA 70435 on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Barker – McManus Cemetery, Lee Road, Covington, LA.
