Barbara "Bobby" Lois (Griggs) Bonnoitt's Obituary
Barbara “Bobby” Lois (Griggs) Bonnoitt passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020. She was born on September 23, 1930 in Hartsville, SC.
Barbara was a charter member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church when the church was founded forty years ago. She was heavily involved in the Republican Women’s Group and was an Officer in the Louisiana Chapter. Barbara was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions during several presidential elections. She also was active in running many local campaigns in Louisiana for Judges, Representatives, and Senators; as well as acting as a Regional Manager for presidential campaigns. Barbara won the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Republican Party in St. Tammany Parish. She was also a founding member of Save the Lake, where she was instrumental in increasing funding dramatically for the organization. In addition, Barbara was actively involved in PEO, which raised funds to support young women in returning to school, with the aid of scholarships.
In her spare time, Barbara loved to play bridge. She had a generous heart and enjoyed caring for others. Her house had an open door policy, anyone was welcome. Barbara was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family.
Bobby is survived by her children Ernest Louis Bonnoit, Jr. (Donna), Katherine Bonnoitt Overman, and Nancy Claire Strohmeyer (James); eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, with another baby girl on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Obeira Griggs and Jim Griggs.
Bobby is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest “Ernie” L. Bonnoitt, Sr., her daughter Barbara Bonnoitt Howland, and her mother Kate Griggs.
Private interment took place in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Barbara to be made to Save the Lake. Donations may be made at https://saveourlake.org/.
