Avis J. Bourg, Sr.'s Obituary
Avis Joseph Bourg, Sr. went to his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, in Covington, Louisiana.
He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in the Louisiana Air National Guard. Born January 23, 1925 in New Orleans, LA, he was raised in Gray, LA, was a long-time resident of Gretna, LA and retired to Franklinton, LA and subsequently Covington, LA. He was a member and former president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. A licensed pilot, he was an avid model airplane enthusiast and member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was a member of the 1942 graduating class of Terrebonne Parish High School, and attended Soule’ Business College.
His parents, Cyprien and Beatrice Landry Bourg, a son, Carl Joel Bourg, and a son-in-law Harold Cavallero, Jr. preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Genevieve LeBouef, and his children, Avis Joseph Bourg, Jr. and his wife Suzette Guidroz; Catherine Bourg Haws; Stephen Dunreath Bourg and his wife Renee Patch; and Denise Bourg Cavallero. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 11:30 AM from St. Benedict Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Rd., Covington, LA 70435. Visiting hours will begin Saturday at the Church at 9:30 AM.
Interment will follow Mass at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA. E.J. Fielding Funereal Home of Covington has been entrusted with arrangements.
