August Joseph "Gus" Baumgartner's Obituary
August Joseph “Gus” Baumgartner, born February 14, 1921, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the age of 88.
Beloved husband of 62 years to Doris Lentz Baumgartner. Loving father of Steven Baumgartner and wife Mary and Susan Baumgartner of Nashville, TN. Son of the late John and Mary Schnider Baumgartner. Brother of Agnes Burns and the late Edward, Louis, Tony and Jack Baumgartner, Theresa Sullivan and Faye Murphy. Grandfather of Amy Baumgartner Spain (Allen), Sara Baumgartner Daniel (Thomas) and John Baumgartner (Adrienne). Great-grandfather of Jackson and Genevieve Spain, Elizabeth Daniel and Nina Baumgartner.
He was a native of Oriska, ND, and a resident of Mandeville for the past 28 years. He was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran and a special agent for the FBI in the Chicago office for 28 years. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joan of Arc in Lisle, IL and Mary Queen of Peace in Mandeville, LA. Gus also coached youth sports in Lisle, IL. After retiring, he worked along side his son at Steve’s Ace Hardware in Covington, LA.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 with visitation at church Monday morning from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
