Arthur Paul Cyr's Obituary
Arthur Paul Cyr, 99, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Jacksonville Beach, FL after a brief illness.
He was born in Fort Kent, Maine to Irenee and Elodie (Pinette) Cyr on December 25, 1909. Mr. Cyr was one of eight children, five of whom left Maine during the great depression for education in Washington, DC. He earned a law degree from National University in 1933 and worked several years as a patent attorney. He and his late wife, Audrey Golden Cyr of Excelsior, MN, were married at St. Matthews RC Church in DC. in 1937, resided in Silver Spring, MD until 1941 when they moved to the Borough of Queens, NYC. In 1964, the family relocated from Tenafly, NJ to Silver Spring, MD where he worked at the Small Business Administration as director of minority businesses (MESBIC) funding. He retired in 1979 and enjoyed travels with Audrey, visiting their children and grandchildren. Arthur was a most honest, forthright man, faithful to his religion and often called a true gentleman. A loving husband, cherished father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children, Mary Anne Hess and husband Dave, Paul Cyr and wife Carla, Susan Cyr and husband Mark Johnston and Dick Cyr and wife Kathy; his sister, Irene Cyr; his grandchildren: Peter Hess, David Hess, III, Michael Cyr and wife Deanna, Richard Cyr and wife Lori, Matthew Cyr and wife Julie, Katie Cyr and Julie Ann Cyr Pigott and husband Tim; and eleven great grand children, some of which are Morgan, Christian, Carson, Bailey and Claire Cyr.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 am Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471. Visitation AT THE CHURCH, 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Saturday. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer Masses or donations to, Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington, LA.
