Arthemise Revere Willis' Obituary
Arthemise Revere Willis passed from this life and went to be the with the Lord the morning of November 5, 2024. She spent her final days surrounded by her children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Arthemise, or Artie, as was she was known, was born on her family’s farm in Bush Louisiana on November 10, 1936. Artie was the 7th of 8 children born to Louis Revere and Elsie Sharp Revere. She attended St Peter’s School, and was a graduate of Covington High School.
During her senior year in high school while visiting her sister in New Orleans, Arthemise met Lev Willis, who she would go on to marry and with whom she would share the next 63 years.
Artie loved to garden and work outside. No job was too big, from carpentry to landscaping, to painting, she enjoyed home improvement. Once when working with her son on a carpentry project, her humor shined through when she exclaimed, “puddy and paint will make it look like what it ain’t”! An excellent housekeeper and family organizer, she kept a home that was comforting and welcoming, providing homecooked meals and a loving environment. She loved to decorate her home for holidays, and would draft those nearby into helping her!
In their later years, Artie and Lev enjoyed travelling, and took advantage of opportunities to see much of the country. Enjoying active lifestyles, they hiked many mountain trails, and went on several whitewater rafting expeditions.
Most of all, Artie loved God. She attended church faithfully, and also made sure that her children attended. She worshiped as she sang in the choir, led family worship night activities, and participated in Christmas plays. She was not one to seek the limelight, but loved to help out however she could.
Artie loved to read the Bible, and she was a woman of faith and prayer. Her prayers were powerful and effective, and this was a blessing and comfort to her husband, children, grandchildren, and many who knew her over the years. Her fervent prayer was that all of her family would know God and serve Him.
We will miss her smile, her bright eyes, and her humor. We will miss her roast and gravy, and steamed shrimp. We will miss her prayers, experience, and wise counsel.
Arthemise was the daughter of Louis Hillary Revere and Elsie Sharp Revere; sister of Virginia Revere Wilson, Violet Revere Jenkins, Nina Revere, Larry Lavon Revere, Roland Hillary Revere, Addie Revere Breland, and Sylvia Revere Michel; mother of Keith Donald Willis and Cheryl Willis Wallace, mother-in-law of Mark Wallace; and grandmother of Justin Daniel Barker, and Brandon Scott Barker. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and dear friends. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless lives she touched along the way.
There will be a wake at E. J.
