Arnold Allen Van Haelen's Obituary
Arnold Allen Van Haelen passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Covington, LA at the age of 72. He was born on September 16, 1941 in New Orleans, LA to Emile Allen and Mary Klein Van Haelen.
In 1961, Arnold married his beloved Margaret Defourneaux Van Haelen and together they had four children, Lisa “Doody” Crain (Al), Josh Van Haelen (Mary), Melissa Richardson (T. R.), and Jason Van Haelen (Shawn). He will be dearly missed by his twelve grandchildren: Jonathan (Carrie), Katie (Matt), Benjamin (Sarah), Christopher, Matthew, Emily, Caroline, Daniel, Zachary, Hunter, Fletcher, and Marley and six great grandchildren: Caleb, Aiden, Emmett, Hailey, Mason, and Lucas. Arnold was the brother of Betty Leonard, Linda Orillion, the late Yvonne Miller and Emile Van Haelen, IV.
Arnold worked as an automation and instrumentation specialist and dedicated himself to raising his family. He served as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1962. Arnold was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending time with his family for vacations and holidays. He was a model train enthusiast, an avid sci-fi fan and loved playing Red Alert.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Liturgy of the Word on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 at 3:00 PM with visitation from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow services in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Arnold Allen Van Haelen be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
