Ann Carey Torczon, 76, passed away from pancreatic cancer Saturday, June 4, 2011 at her residence in Covington. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Vernon James Torczon, a professor of Shakespeare, and the beloved mother of L Read Obituary
My deepest condolences to all Ann's family. Vern and Ann were wonderful friends to me in my years of college and afterwards, and were always open and supportive. We had many great and good and happy conversations together, with their home aways so full of their students. I dined with them many times and once or twice babysit their younger children when Ann and Vern needed a night out. My best to all of their children.
As the mother of my oldest and best friend Joe, my most heartfelt condolences go out to him and his family.
Ms Ann was a beautiful lady inside and out with a unmatched ability to see the good in all of us. Her legacy aside from her wonderful family is the countless students she taught to read. The world is truly a better place by having had her in it.
I'm certain Mr. Vern, Ms Ann and Scoot are finally together again.

Ann will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
I was a Learning Lab tutor for almost five years. Nearly thirty years later, I still consider Ann to be the best boss I've ever had. But she was more than a great boss. She was a good friend and a wonderful, wonderful person. I used to say that, if someone were to begin, "Ann Torczon needs," I'd be on my feet before the end of the sentence.
Vern served on my thesis committee when I wrote my Master's thesis on Edmund Spenser. Ann gave me a picture of Spenser's castle that she got on a trip to Ireland. That picture still hangs in my office.
I am heartbroken by the news of Ann's death. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
Dear Joe and Family, I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's death. Your Dad and Mom are part of my best memories of our days in Gentilly Woods. Your Mom was such a wonderful, positive and kind person, we spent much time sitting in the stands chatting while you and Lenny played ball at the various ball parks. Reading your Mom's many accomplishments speaks to the fact that she truly did make a difference in this world. You and your family are in my prayers.
The times I had the pleasure of being with Aunt Ann will always be cherished. Her love, warmth, kindness and graciousness were very much appreciated, as were her visits, letters, gifts, cards and emails over the years. I will always keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

My first job at UNO was working in the Learning Lab for Ann, and she made it a very good experience. I always admired her and considered her a role model, and I'm so happy I had the chance to know her.
