I just found out about Coach Mac's passing. My prayers are with the family. I attended Ferncrest in the 70's and 80's. I cannot express the gratitude that I feel for the Charitat family. I really grew up on Hayne Blvd. and think back on those years as so wonderful and carefree. Playing sports for Coach Mac was one of the highlights of my life. I remember his smile and the way he always made me feel at ease. I developed so much confidence at school. That confidence has allowed me to fulfill my ambition and become a full time musician my entire life. I will never forget Coach Mac and the things I learned from him. They are invaluable. i also still use my Ferncrest penmanship and get complimented on it all the time. He touched many lives and will live forever in the hearts of many.

Andy, Lisa, David, and Eileen,
I am so sorry I did not hear of Coach's passing until today. You know I would have been there to honor Coach with you and friends.
There are so many thanks to give to Coach, but I would like to thank him for his ability to make the Ferncrest students a family. He taught us how to be a good teammate, citizen, family member, and student through his actions. To me, he was a father figure in certain situations and a friend in others. The older I get, the more I realize how special of a person it takes to be both.
The Charitats will always be considered a part of my family.

I attended Frencrest in the 60's and as I struggled to get through math,Coach(as we all called him)had the patience of a saint while working with me. His manners,poise,and detication to teaching not only math but other aspects of life is something I will never forget. "Thank You" for everything you did during our days at Ferncrest. Coach gave me my love of math. I'm a tax attorney now. I attended Ferncrest from 1961 to 1970. Coach and his mother were incredible teachers. They made love learning. My fondest memory of Coach is of dancing with him at a school dance. He was kind enough to ask this ugly duckling to dance. Dancing with him made me feel like a swan. we share birthdays but many years apartm My sincerest sympathies. Your husband, father and grandfather touched many lives and made so many better by his commitment to learning.

I was deeply moved to learn of Mac's passing. I had a warm reconnection with him at our 50th anniversary reunion last Easter week. Our time together at The Abbey was so special. I went into deep reflection on what a wonderful friend was passing. I have some sense of the impact the physical separation from him must now have for all of you after such a full life together. But you may still feel his presence. The veil between the living and those passed is thin. And they will see us home too. His journey is over and he now enjoys a transformed life with the Divine along with other old friends and family. We mourn his passing as we must but take heart and find peace.

Our deepest thoughts go to Eileen, Andy and David. As the parents of two Ferncrest graduates, Rick and Ron, "Mac" contributed in a special way to help them form the necessary character attributes to steer them on a very positive road of life. We are also happy that we got to see him and Eileen in recent years and reminisce about the "Ferncrest" days. He will be affectionately remembered by many.
