Ana "Maggie" Beckett's Obituary
Ana “Maggie” Beckett, age 88, of Mandeville, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. She was born on November 7, 1935, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Wallace Jack “Wally” Beckett, Sr.; son, Wallace James “Wally” Beckett, Jr.; grandchildren, Brittany Beckett, Dallas Beckett, and Ryan Roe; eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Isabel Gil, Roberto Gil, and Norma Yorsh; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Manuel Gil and Margarita Cristina Murphy Gil; and a sister, Martha Finnorn.
Maggie was a deeply caring and loving mother, wife, grandmother and beloved friend to many. She was also a woman of profound and devout Catholic faith.
After leaving Honduras, Maggie began working for Tan Airlines in Miami, Florida, where she met the love of her life, Wallace Jack Beckett. They married shortly thereafter.
She enjoyed many years living in the village of Kendall in south Miami, taking care of her family, and traveling as opportunities allowed. She also became the de facto mom to her son’s seven best friends growing up and retained those relationships throughout her life.
Maggie later moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, and settled into the lovely Beau Chene Community, where she established a new group of long-lasting friends and spent her time gardening, fellowshipping with her church family, and doing extensive volunteer work.
Maggie was ultimately able to fulfill her dreams of finally moving away from the responsibilities of a big home and moved into Christwood Retirement Community. After working so hard to serve others, she could finally enjoy the cooking and cleaning of others while also getting to enjoy all of the daily activities and new friendships that were available to her at Christwood.
The family extends a special thanks to Patricia "Patsy" Munoz whose care, determination, and love for Maggie over the last two years was so needed and appreciated.
