Althea Helffrich Larsen's Obituary
Althea Helffrich Larsen, age 101 years, died on Tuesday, August 10th, 2021 at home. Beloved wife of the late Albert "Brother" Larsen, and mother of Philip (Martha, and the late Dee), Jerry (the late Alice) and Lynn (Bill Larsen-Ruffin). Unofficial Mom to Jacques LeBourgeois. Grandmother of Holly, Sherri, and Jake, great grandmother of nine, and great-great grandmother of one.
Althea May Rita Helffrich was born in New Orleans, on North Villere Street, on June 4th, 1920, the fourth child and only daughter of Eleonora Antonia Roth and Jules (John Philip) Helffrich. (Her mother made a successful novena to St. Rita, asking for a girl.) Mom had five brothers: the late Jules, Jean, Albert, & Andrew, and she is survived by her baby brother Raymond. Their late wives, Bertha, Winnie, Joyce, and Doris were like true sisters to her. She had seven nieces and nephews: Doris, Dorothy Ann, Albert, Charles, and Linda Helffrich, and Patsy & Jimmy Larsen.
Mom had a lovely voice, and was always singing, mostly songs from her favorite Sigmund Romberg operettas. Her design and sewing skills were unmatched, and she is in the pantheon of DIY goddesses. Her main joy in life, though, besides Pop, was gardening. She spent any spare moments outside in her gardens, or in the greenhouse until she was well into her nineties, and kept porch plants thereafter.
The family wishes to thank hospice nurses April, Missy, Carol, and Jancy for their wonderful care, and Dr, Mark Hontas and Nurse Beverly for their long-time care and friendship over the years.
Memorial contributions in memory of Althea may be made to Northshore Humane Society, 20384 Harrison Ave, Covington, LA 70433
