Alger F. Davis Jr.'s Obituary
Alger F. Davis, Jr. of Franklinton, LA, formerly of Algiers Point passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on November 20, 1947 in New Orleans, LA to the late Alger F. Davis, Sr., and the late Norma Helen (Higgins) Davis.
Alger is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Janice (Smith) Davis; his children Belinda Davis Brown-Gast (Curtis Gast), Aaron Christopher Davis (Stephanie Diane Davis), and Alison Davis White (Johnny White); and his eight grandchildren: Joshua Aaron Davis, Mackenzie Lynn Brown, Aislinn Elizabeth White, Jacob Hugh White, Sophia Helen Davis, Katherine Elizabeth Davis, Caroline Grace Davis, and Aiden Christopher White. He is also survived by his brother William Edward Davis (Gwendolyn Durgin Davis), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Alger is preceded in death by his grandson Joseph “Joey” August Gettys, IV.
Alger grew up in New Orleans and graduated from St. Aloysius High School before attending Louisiana State University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After exiting the service, he worked for numerous Federal Agencies and retired from employment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Alger was a talented musician whose love of music began at the age of 6 and continued into his adult life. He was in a band during his high school years and performed in many school plays. His musical talents include vocals and piano. During his retirement, he adored spending time with his grandchildren, travelling, and singing to his chickens.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged and masks are required to attend services.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Ave, Covington, LA 70433 on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM with visitation on Wednesday beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow the services in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.
