So sorry to hear of his passing. He was truly a great man to work with. I will cherish his memory and the CDs he made me of old Blues and Rock and Roll. 💙 Prayers for his beautiful family!
Wow! Just heard that Dr Sconzert passed away. I was one of his first nurses when he started his neurology practice in Lake Charles, LA. He never forgot my birthday or Ethan and Rebekkah’s birthday. I always looked forward to receiving a birthday card with a CD of my favorite music in it. He never traveled anywhere without sending our family a postcard. I will cherish these special memories forever. I will never forget how he told me to remind his patients the correct way to pronounce his name…”Concert but with an “S”. The perfect way to remember such a kind man and his love of music! Fly high Dr S! Love you forever!

For more than 30 years, I had the privilege of calling Alan Sconzert my friend. We met as neurology residents at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, where we shared our fascination with the complex and mysterious cases that challenged us every day, and our passion for the gumbo of music and culture of that city. Alan had a great sense of humor and a love for music. I remember accompanying him on amazing expeditions finding live music- from late nights at Tipitina’s to annual pilgrimages to the Jazz Fest. Even years after we left New Orleans, he would often send me tapes and CDs of music he knew I liked, along with thoughtful notes and postcards. He never forgot my birthday or anniversary, and he always made me feel valued and appreciated. I know he did the same for many others.
I was lucky enough to practice neurology again with him years later in Lake Charles. Alan was an excellent doctor, who cared deeply for his patients and colleagues. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or crack a joke. He was a mentor, a role model, and a friend to many. He was blessed with an amazing and patient wife Sue Hall and three incredible children, all different and all brilliant, each with that same spark of curiosity about the world that Alan had.
Alan was more than a friend to our family. He was there for us through the hurricanes and the floods, through joy and sorrow, through health and sickness. He supported us, encouraged us, and inspired us. He enriched our lives in so many ways, and I will always be grateful for his friendship.
Alan, you will be missed by everyone who knew you. You left a lasting impression on this world, and you touched many hearts and minds. You were a rare and precious gift. Rest in peace, my friend.
