Adelia "Dee" Barcia's Obituary
Adelia “Dee” Barcia, age 85, of Mandeville, LA. passed away at her home with family on Saturday, April 20, 2024. She was born on August 21, 1938, in New Iberia, Louisiana.
The last of 9 siblings, Adelia was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Electa Mayard Sr., her sisters and brothers Mary Ruth Manning, Jeanette Vilardo, Edmar, Paul Jr., Wallace, Lewis, John Wayne and Jerry Mayard along with her grandson Jonathan Mumme.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Alphonse Barcia, Jr.; her children, Kathleen Mumme (Mike) and Alphonse Barcia, III (Stacey); her grandchildren, Justin and Benjamin Mumme, Austin, Aiden and Alby Barcia and many loving nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow up.
Adelia lived in Chalmette starting in the 1960’s until she moved to Mandeville in 1997. Chalmette offered the family structure they desired, and Mandeville offered them their retirement oasis.
In Chalmette, Adelia was the beloved librarian at St Mark’s Catholic School. She was very inquisitive and always encouraged questions. When in doubt she would say, “Look it up!”
After moving to Mandeville, mom and dad enjoyed bike riding, walking on the St Tammany Trace and visiting the lakefront. They also enjoyed traveling with family, friends, and their AARP group. As an avid bird watcher and plant enthusiast…she was always fascinated with the unknown and all things unique.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a loving wife, mom, mother-in-law, maw maw, sister, friend and second mom to many. May your heart be filled with wonderful memories and stories of our sweet mama to help ease your pain. Special thanks to St Tammany Hospice for your compassion and support as we navigated the last month of her life.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Service will begin at 11:00 AM.
Interment will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in the memory of Adelia Barcia to St Tammany Hospice or Mandeville Beautification Programs.
