June 15, 1953 - April 14, 2022
Michael "Mike" Tyson, age 68, of Covington, LA, went into the loving arms of Jesus in the early hours of April 14, 2022, after a courageous 5 month battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Maris. Their romance lasted 28 years and was blessed with three wonderful children: Lathion (Marie), Mathew (Stacy), and precious daughter Lily. His four adoring grandchildren, Jacob, Caitlin, Shae, and Cole, will miss Granddaddy’s fun loving personality and wonderful cuddles! They all brought him so much joy, pride, and happiness. Mike was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky on June 15, 1953, to the late James Tyson and Madeline Baggett Tyson. He is survived by four siblings: Doug Tyson, Bruce Tyson, Tina Carlton, and Lisa Tyson- along with many nieces and nephews. A native of Tennessee, and longtime resident of the Mandeville/Covington area, Mike graduated from Afcent International High School in Brunssum, Netherlands. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Mike was a kind, humble, and most of all a loving man who took pleasure in golfing, hunting, and biking. He enjoyed a successful career in the automotive industry in both management and sales and finished at Mercedes-Benz of New Orleans. However, his true passions were his love for God, family, and friends. He was a devoted member of Church of the King at Little Creek Campus for many years and more recently First Baptist Church of Covington. Mike found every opportunity he could to share his love of Christ with his co-workers and clients. He always extended an invitation for others to join him at church. Mike was well respected, liked by all, and will be deeply and dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life & Memorial Service at The Chapel at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, Louisiana 70433, on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time. Following the service, refreshments will be held in the Garden Room. The interment will take place privately at a later time. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate staff from Hospice of St. Tammany Parish Hospital who lovingly cared for Mike. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home locally owned and operated, (985) 892-9222 has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. The Tyson family invites you to share thoughts, fondest memories, and condolences online at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home Guest Book at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
