Leon Dean Odom
March 3, 1929 - February 24, 2022
Leon Dean Odom, a veteran of the United States Air Force who proudly served his country as a 2nd LT, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his devoted wife and beloved family on Thursday, February 24, 2022 just 1 week shy of his 93rd birthday. Leon is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Elaine Montero Odom; his daughters, Louise Odom Minor (Dr. Frank) and Wanda O’Leary-Schiro (Anthony); 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He will also be sorely missed by his loyal dog, Max. Leon was the son of the late Leon Ogden Odom and Audrey Corley Odom. Leon had an identical twin brother, Leonard Ogden Odom, who predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his sons, William (2008) and Terral (2008). He will be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and friends. Leon earned a Bachelors of Science in Physics from LSU and worked as an engineer at Schlumberger, Michoud and Comet Construction. He was a proud member of the American Legion, LSU track team and an avid golfer in his younger years. This admirable man wore many hats. He was an adoring husband, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was known for his patience and generosity. Leon loved woodworking and bringing happiness to children with his wooden train sets. He was an extremely giving man who would do anything for anyone if asked. Leon was very loved and respected by all who knew him. He was the Patriarch of our family leaving us with lifelong memories. He was truly the definition of a legend. Leon will be deeply missed. The family would like to give a special thanks to Heart of Hospice for their support during this difficult time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service with military honors to celebrate his life at Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave, Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 12:00 Noon with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project in honor of their beloved Veteran. E.J.
