Joycelyn Laine Oalmann
October 2, 2022 - March 9, 2022
Joycelyn Laine Oalmann, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington, LA for the past 16 years, passed away on March 9, 2022. She was 90 years old. Her husband of 66 years, Joseph W. Oalmann, Jr. preceded her in death as did her parents, Chester P. Laine and Agnes Adams Laine and grandson, Terry J. Bethancourt. She will never be forgotten by her daughters MaryAnn Sison (Gustave), Peggy Bethancourt (Jim), and Joann Labruzzo Lovan (Robin). She was Granny to her adoring grandchildren: Lori Indest Hahn (Matt); Ryan Indest (Lynn); Nathan Sison (Sara Forcella), Tess Sison (Conrad Coutinho), and great-grandchildren Meredith, Emma, and Christian Hahn and Maxwell Coutinho. She is also survived by her ‘little’ sisters, Darlene Laine Parlipiano (Joe) and Cynthia Laine Fontana (Daryl). Aunt Joycelyn will be missed by her cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren, her in-laws, and many friends. Spending time with and cooking for the people around her was Joycelyn’s most-loved past time. We will remember the wonderful aromas and flavors emanating from her kitchen and her conviction that no matter what the diet or fast, “ice cream doesn’t count.” Joycelyn was mostly a stay-at-home mom involved in the many activities of her children and grandchildren and a member of various social organizations. She was always on call for babysitting and for helping someone in need. After raising her daughters and often caring for her younger sisters, she returned to work and retired from Vista Fibers. The family extends special thanks to St. Tammany Hospice and particularly to Darlene and Joe Parlipiano who opened their home and hearts to ‘Sissy’ for the last two years of her life. Joycelyn truly exemplified a devotion to her Catholic faith throughout her life. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of that life and faith at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433, where Joycelyn enjoyed being an active member, on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Mass will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/c/MostHolyTrinityCatholicChurchCovington. Visitation will be from 10:00 until Mass time. Interment will be held privately by the family at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA. Please Share a Memory on the Tribute Wall at www.ejfieldingfh.com. It is our wish that all attendees wear masks and be mindful of other public health recommendations. Joycelyn requests donations to your favorite charity or just spending some extra time with your loved ones.
