Jolyn Marie Cassata Sundquist of Metairie, LA, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the age of 57. She was born in New Orleans, LA on January 6", 1964 to Joseph Roger and Carolyn Orth Cassata. Jolyn is survived by her beloved son Brandon Joseph Sundquist, mother Carolyn Orth Cassata, sisters Julie Cassata Coe (Chris), Jodi Cassata Arieux (Jerry), aunt “nanny” to Bryce Coe, Jordan and Jenna Arieux. Special friends Victoria and Riley Carrillo, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by her father Joseph Roger Cassata, grandparents Joseph and Glenda Cassata, Andrew and Thelma Orth. Born in New Orleans and growing up in St Bernard Parish, she enjoyed playing sports at Rebel Park, but as she got older, changed rolls and began coaching alongside her parents, eventually stepping up to help her dad coach the St Bernard Girls All Star basketball and softball teams. She attended Lutheran High School, where she played multiple sports, earning a place on the LHSAA All State Volleyball Team and was selected as homecoming queen her senior year. She went on to graduate from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After graduating from college, Jolyn began working in the accounting department for Puerto Rico Marine Management, a maritime transportation company. She then moved to MG Transport where she was working as the accounting supervisor at the time of her death. Strong in her faith, while she was a member of First English Lutheran Church she served as Sunday School superintendent and ran their Vacation Bible School. Jolyn’s pride and joy was her son Brandon. She made it a point to be a part of his many activities — serving as Cub Scout den mother of Pack #117 at St Christopher Catholic School, dugout mom for his baseball team, and following his competitions with the Brother Martin High School NJROTC. Family was the center of Jolyn’s life. From basketball, baseball, volleyball and softball games to winter guard and color guard competitions, she always made time to follow and support her nieces and nephew and was their#1 fan. When she needed to get away, you could be sure to find her at the “happiest place on earth....Disney World”. Jolyn was loved by all who knew her....caring, kind, helpful, and supportive. ..she was definitely one of the best! A private funeral was held on March 27th, 2021 at EJ Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA.
