Jason Isaac Rich 43, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Mandeville, LA. He was born on October 21, 1977 in New Iberia, LA to Harry Isaac Rich, Jr. and Shari Kidman Rich. Jason was the beloved husband of Sheri Elghorayeby Rich and a loving father to Salma Hassouni and Gabriel Rich. Jason is survived by; his parents, Harry and Shari Rich, his wife, Sheri Elghorayeby Rich, his children, Salma Hassouni, and Gabriel Rich, his brother Jeremy Rich (Kendra Rich), his sister, Jessica Drews (Kevin Drews), and his eight nieces and nephews; Caroline Rich, Kylie Rich, Jordynn Rich, Thatcher Rich, Ayden Rich, Blake Rich, William Drews and Henry Drews. Jason graduated from Mandeville High School in 1996 where he played on the Iron Curtain defense as Middle Linebacker for the Mandeville Skippers. He then went on to play football at Millsaps College for a short time then eventually transferring to Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) where he played for the SLU Rugby team and graduated with a degree in Sports Management. He was so thrilled to find a sport that he could do for longer than the college years and a sport that gave him life long friends. After college he played rugby for the New Orleans Rugby Club. In 2007 he began his professional career working for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) St. Tammany as the very first Peer Support Specialist for youth at Southeast Hospital where he mentored many youth struggling with mental illness. In 2015 he went on to work as a Peer Liaison for Louisiana Health Care Connections and led a number of AA meetings in the community. In 2020 he earned an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management from Southeastern Louisiana University. He loved to fish, camp, spend time with his family and was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and absolutely loved live music and the band Tool. Jason helped so many people in his life while at the same time having his own struggles with mental illness, addiction, as well as epilepsy. He was an empathetic person who deeply cared for his friends, family, and anyone that crossed his path. He had a special loving soul and was always searching for the deeper meaning to life and why we are all here on this earth. “Embrace this moment, Remember We are Eternal, Pain is an Illusion” - Tool * Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and masks are required to attend services.* A small service will take place on Tuesday January 12, 2021 at E.J. Fielding Funeral home in Covington, LA. Visitation will be from 9-11am and Interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA. Due to COVID concerns and limited capacity at the funeral home a Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family on a later date at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Dr., Mandeville, LA 70471.
