James Gerard Murphy, Sr., 87, of Mandeville fell asleep in death on June 21st, 2021. James was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 12, 1934 to Cecil John Murphy, Sr., and Barbara Curry Murphy. After graduating from Jesuit High School, he attended Loyola University. He went on to manage the K&B on Canal St. and was a general merchandiser for Canal Villere and The Real Superstore for many years. He also spent his pre-retirement years working for his cousin, Anne Rice. James enjoyed many hobbies including carving, stamp/coin collecting, gardening, and spending time with his loving family. James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara L. Murphy (Nick), his sister Bernadette Murphy, his sister Marie Ann Murphy (John), his sister Patricia G Murphy (Richard), his brother Cecil J Murphy, Jr. (Kiku), his sister Kathleen I. Murphy (Don), and his brother William J. Murphy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Josephine D’Angelo Murphy, their four loving children: Nancy Rando (Barry), Kathleen Schaefer (Jerry), Coleen Murphy, James Murphy Jr. (Judy), nine loving grandchildren: Steven Rando (Courtney), Louis Rando (Kim), Rachael Rando, Lance Schaefer, Aaron Schaefer, Erica Murphy, Kelly Ferguson, Marie Murphy, Matthew Murphy, and three great-grandchildren: Henry Rando, Lydia Rando, and Isabelle Rando. He was a kind, patient, and generous man of faith with a wonderful sense of humor who was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to the Memorial Mass at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W.
