Gilbert Paul Marcel Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Gilbert Paul Marcel, 100 years young, passed away July 2, 2022 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA. He was born in Houma, LA to Raoul and Angelic Marcel. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife and sweetheart of over 50 years, Helen Marcel; sisters, Alice Wibel and Betsy Pretlove; brothers, Earl and Russell Marcel. He is survived by, his son, Allen Marcel; daughters and sons in law, Sharon and Rob Frye and Evelyn and Thorton Helm; granddaughter and grandson in law, Becky and Tye McGuire; 2 great granddaughters, Lily Jane and Amelia Rose McGuire along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mr. Gilbert was a quiet man. He grew up in a different time than most; he was accustomed to tough situations and it made him have a compassionate heart to others in need. There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for someone whether it involved, helping out financially or giving his time or even just listening, Mr. Gilbert was the one to turn to. He enjoyed woodworking (which he was good at), gardening (which he was not good at) and eating (which was his favorite). Mr. Gilbert proudly served in the Navy during his younger years on the USS HOUSTON. The US Navy recognized Mr. Gilbert for his honorable service with the medal of 3 stars Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, American Theater and the Victory Medal. Mr. Gilbert’s family is grateful for the time shared with him and will cherish the memories he leaves behind. A service of honoring the life of Mr. Gilbert will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, where Mr. Gilbert will be laid to rest beside his wife. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is honored to serve the Marcel family.
