March 2, 1935 - April 11, 2021
Betty Ann diBenedetto Mentel McCrimmon passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 surrounded by family in Covington, LA. She was born on March 2, 1935 in New Orleans, LA to the late Salvadore “Benny” diBenedetto and Eunice Frisch diBenedetto. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Harmon Ross McCrimmon. She was the loving mother of Ronald A. Mentel, Jr. (Pamela), Christopher A. Mentel, Elizabeth A. Ballas (Blaine), Nathalie M. Lavergne (Charles), Mark F. Mentel (Maria), and Alicia K. Mentel. She was proud of her 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Betty was the sister of Geraldine D. Puyau, Eunice D. Jennings, the late Dr. Robert diBenedetto, and Patricia diBenedetto. She will also be missed by the father of her children, Ronald A. Mentel Sr. Betty Ann was born, raised and educated in New Orleans. She attended St. Mary of the Angels Elementary School and graduated from The Academy of Holy Angels. At Holy Angels, Betty’s angelic voice was discovered and this led to an offer of a full musical scholarship to Loyola University. One of her greatest passions in life was singing. Betty graced many wedding ceremonies with her heavenly rendition of Ave Maria. She loved to garden and was an excellent “chef”. She loved entertaining her family and friends, always with a smile. She was a very gracious host and made everyone feel welcome. If you knew her, you loved her. Betty served as past president and secretary of Northlake Republican Women for several years. While with NRW, she was instrumental in organizing the Teddy Bear Tea fund raiser which provided stuffed animals for the children at Hope House. Betty also served as a member of the Board for Safe Harbor, a domestic violence program and shelter. As a Board member, she worked diligently to raise funds for the shelter and to bring awareness to the issue of Domestic Violence. Betty will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her fun-loving personality, and her loving heart. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her, and sadly missed most of all by her adoring family. Our Matriarch, our loving Mother, has entered the Pearly Gates and is with our Lord. Rest in Eternal Peace, Mom. We Love you. We would like to extend our gratitude and deep felt appreciation for the wonderful staff at St Tammany Parish Hospice. The kindness and attention shown while caring for our Mother in her final days was exceptional. We will be forever grateful. Relatives and friends are invited to the Memorial Service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Betty’s memory to Safe Harbor P.O. Box 1179 Mandeville, LA 70471. Please Share a Memory on the Tribute Wall at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
