Tom and A.J. were personal and musical friends I will treasure the rest of my days. Having lost both of my parents some years earlier, Tom and A.J. became surrogate parents to me - we shared thoughts of the day, a love of earlier New Orleans dixieland, broke bread together (A.J. was a great cook), and participated in rehearsals and gigs with mutual friends. We belonged to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington. I always felt like another son to Tom. Heaven is smiling. My sympathy to the Carleton family. Paul Spitzfaden, Jr.
Tom was one of the original members of the Bayou Liberty Jazz Band. We will always cherish his fine trombone style, his ceaseless wit, and giving nature. Like a fine wine, he was ageless.
