Mr. Charlie was one of the last “good ones”. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He literally started from nothing and walked to and from work everyday until he was able to afford to buy a car. He was a very loving husband for years and did all that he could to keep his wife and children happy and healthy.
He was very old school and he was a gentleman. I remember I had my first baby shower at their house because his daughter Linda is my best friend and my husband took his shirt off and he jumped all over his butt because he was raised that was disrespectful and thought it was rude of him, lol. He used to drive his ex-wife’s car to the gas station and fill it up with gas just so she wouldn’t have to because he thought it was the man’s job to do it!
I also remember him going and taking classes at the library to learn how to read. He was a very proud man and even though I’m sure it was hard on him, he did it and he got through it and learned to survive on his own. He rose above everything that life threw his way and he always kept a positive attitude and a smile on his face. He was always willing to help out whenever and wherever he could.
I got to see him a lot working at Avala where he had about a dozen surgeries and he ALWAYS held onto the fact that one day he’d get through his health issues and get back to work!!! He kept telling me maybe this will be the last one so I can get my butt back to work.
He loved his children and grandkids as much as any mother and grandmother would. He stepped up and played both parts and he did a great job at it all.
I’m sure he still has a smile on his face even now. I’m sure he is at peace and jumping around up in Heaven with his new body looking down on and guiding all those he loves. If he is able, I’m sure he will be, because that was just the kind of man he was.
He was taken too soon, but his memories will live on. He leaves behind a legacy of love and hope. He proved that adversity doesn’t have to keep you down and he was a living testimony to the fact that no matter what happens to you in life.. you can still choose joy.
Cheers in heaven Mr. Charlie😇
